What actually lands from your export
The question people ask mid-migration is not which tool to pick, it is whether the file they are holding will survive the move. Here is what the importer reads.
Column names are matched, not positional, so an export you have already opened and re-saved
still works. The score column is recognised as score, rating,
nps, nps score, csat, ces,
pmf, answer or response. Comments come from
comment, comments, feedback, verbatim,
text or additional comments. Timestamps from
created at, timestamp, responded at,
response date, date or submitted at. Respondent identity

Timestamps are kept as the real response dates. They are not rewritten to the time you did the import, which is what turns a year of history into a single spike on today's date and is the most common way a migration quietly destroys the trend it was meant to preserve.

Your history stays history
Imported responses are labelled imported history, not measured by UserVane, and they are kept separate from what we observe ourselves. When a survey has any measured responses the default view shows those; imported rows are there, counted and readable, but they never quietly inflate a number we are claiming to have measured.
That distinction is the point rather than a technicality. A tool that blends three years of someone else's data into today's headline is handing you a number nobody can defend, and the first person to ask where it came from will find out.
Limits
The practical limits, before you start
- 5 MB per file, up to 10,000 rows. Larger exports go in as several files; nothing is deduplicated across them, so split by date range rather than at random.
- Quoted fields and embedded newlines are handled. Comments containing commas and line breaks are the normal case in a verbatim column, not an edge case.
- Historical import does not use your monthly response cap. Bringing three years of history in does not spend the allowance you bought for collecting new responses.
- Available on every plan, including free. The import is not the upsell.
- Five imports an hour, which is a guard against a runaway script rather than a limit you will meet by hand.
